Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture Strengthens Regional Cooperation at Jordan Forum
Alaa Farouk, Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, recently held bilateral meetings with key figures, including his counterparts from Syria and Bahrain, the President of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), the Chairperson of the Zarqa Chamber of Industry, and the President of the Jordanian Poultry Producers Association. These discussions focused on fostering joint agricultural cooperation and took place during Farouk’s visit to Jordan for the Regional Forum on Accelerating Food Systems Transformation in the Arab Region, organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in Amman.
In his meeting with Fayez Al-Miqdad, Syria’s Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Farouk highlighted the critical role of agricultural collaboration between Egypt and Syria in advancing food security and sustainable development across the Arab region, given both nations’ agricultural heritage. Their discussions explored avenues for sharing expertise and technology, particularly in irrigation modernization and strategic crop productivity enhancement. They also emphasized the potential to exchange research, develop improved crop varieties, and find innovative solutions to current agricultural challenges.
When meeting with Wael El-Mubarak, Bahrain’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, Farouk underscored the strength of Egypt-Bahrain relations and the potential for intensified agricultural collaboration to optimize resources and meet market demands locally and regionally. The two ministers discussed the development of sustainable agricultural projects, initiatives to enhance environmental conservation, and efforts to boost trade in agricultural goods.
Further, they explored collaborative research to enhance Egyptian sheep and resilient wheat varieties and examined options for high-quality, productive olive seedlings. The conversation also included potential partnerships on greenhouse projects aimed at sustainable agricultural resource production.
In a separate meeting with Fares Hamoudeh, Chairperson of the Zarqa Chamber of Industry and Head of the Jordanian Poultry Producers Association, Farouk reviewed the union’s initiatives in supporting poultry producers. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to fostering an investor-friendly climate and emphasized the promising investment opportunities within Egypt’s poultry sector.
